My FaceBook friend Shehzad Ahmed writes:
Polio is a devastating disease. It has crippled and killed people across the world for centuries. Rotary launched the PolioPlus program in 1985 with the goal of polio eradication for the world. In October of 2011, Rotarians Joe Pratt and Steve Puderbaugh, along with their wives, took part in the Polio National Immunization Days in Pakistan. While participating in multiple polio camps and in a National Polio Conference, the Rotarians discussed what else they could do to help end polio in Pakistan and the world. Joe, a Past District Governor, was already training to climb Mount Everest in May of 2012. It was thought that this would be a great opportunity to continue to raise awareness and support for the polio eradication effort by asking Rotarians and inidividuals sponsor Joe's climb. The goal is to raise $100,000.
