Rotary take action in flood-stricken Fiji

Help is already reaching Fijian villages due in part to the efforts of Rotary clubs in New Zealand and Fiji who have sent emergency relief kits and money to buy food and other supplies.
Members of Rotary clubs from Suva and Lautoka have been distributing the kits and food supplies to some of the worst affected villages around Nadi and in the western part of the main island of Vita Levu.
Food shortage is a major issue in Fiji in the wake of the week’s floods, and Rotary is appealing for funds to buy supplies. $NZ40 will buy a food parcel for a family.
Some of the reports coming back from the Rotary teams active on the ground are heart rending, says District Governor Alan Eyes whose Rotary area includes the South Pacific.
“The Rotarians in Fiji are doing a tremendous job assisting families very badly affected by the flooding. Those in the West are out there delivering the aid – food, clothing, and Rotary’s emergency response kits (ERKs)
“There are some tremendous stories of need and compassion coming through in emails and photos.
“Food is a major issue. Fiji Rotary clubs have already donated $6,000 for food parcels which are being sourced and distributed to those in need in the west.
