Youth Service brings vitality to Rotary - thanks 9970 RYLA

RYLA is a great opportunity for Rotary to engage with ‘Youth Service’ the now renamed Fifth Avenue of Service, New Generations having been dropped by the 2013 CoL.

Stef Banbury, one of the three people sponsored by Christchurch Sunrise Rotary on the D9970 RYLA course and an employee of Canterbury Television (CTV), has put these clips together to record the events that occurred.

The course with 43 attendees from throughout the District, was held at College House one of the Halls of Residence associated with Canterbury University in late January 2013 and was run on behalf of the District by the Sunrise Club.

A number of the attendees, aged between 18-24 are in employment, with a relatively even spilt in gender. A number have committed to becoming further involved in their communities with a strong base in Christchurch interested in developing and forming into a Rotaract group.

Social Media was used to capture opinions from Rotaractors

In late July, RI asked on social media five questions about Rotaractors becoming Rotarians. RI then  presented the responses to the Membership Development & Retention and Rotaract & Interact committees. Here are the questions that were discussed:

• How can former Rotaractors stay connected to Rotary if they are not yet ready to join a Rotary club?
• What has your experience been with your sponsor Rotary club?
• Should Rotary clubs modify the cost of Rotary membership for former Rotaractors?
• What skills would you bring to a Rotary club as a member that you developed through Rotaract?
• What do you see as the similarities and differences between an experienced Rotaractor and a young Rotarian? (You can participate in the discussion on LinkedIn.)

Read some of the responses RI received from those questions. In all, more than 300 people responded to questions about Rotaractors becoming Rotarians. The results were presented on 1 August to the 2012-13 RI Membership Development & Retention and Rotaract & Interact committees at One Rotary Center.
