Timaru South Rotary Club - a high profile for a great effort

Several groups and individuals have shared $30,000 in donations from the Rotary Club of Timaru South.

Secretary Des Kearns said the club had had a busy but fruitful year with its fundraising efforts.

It distributed $30,000 to the SPCA, Citizens Advice Bureau, South Canterbury Roller Skating Club, Daffodil House in Christchurch, Fred Hollows Foundation, Cure Kids, and the Life Education Trust.

Three secondary school students also received donations to attend the Otago University science school, one person was given money for Outward Bound, two candidates attended the Rotary youth leadership programme, and one candidate was supported for a volunteer project in Thailand.

Money also went to organisations looking after people with arthritis, Parkinsons, multiple sclerosis, Batten disease and cystic fibrosis. Other projects to benefit included Hospital Radio, Blue Light and the South Canterbury Heart Defibrillator Project, while the Rowallan Scout Group, Timac (Foundation of the Blind activity) Group, and youth life skills programme Ripen also received funding.
