Town Meets Country – A Tale of Two Clubs

Ashburton Rotarian Alister Brown hands out
apples to Wainoni school children during
their farm visit.
About 100 children from Wainoni Primary School enjoyed a day on a farm recently thanks to the Rotary Club of Ashburton.

The day trip to Rotarian Errol Stewart’s family farm near Rakaia, came about as part of the growing relationship between RC Ashburton and the Rotary Club of Christchurch North which was badly affected by the earthquakes in Canterbury. Wainoni School is in RC Christchurch North’s area.

On 2 November two coach loads of children aged five to 12 years, accompanied by teachers, parents and RC Christchurch North President Karen Clark, made the hour long drive to the Stewart family farm where the Ashburton Rotarians had gathered to greet the children and host them for a day on the farm.

The challenge noted in the email I received was:

I’m sure Ashburton will have got coverage in their local newspaper, as they have a longstanding strong relationship.  But the issue is that RDU is pretty much a ‘closed audience’ and how do we get wider good news storeys out there.

This is where the wider potential audience via ‘blogs’ that is important to access / inform potential new younger people as otherwise the message is only ‘self-congratulatory’?
