A time for change

Martin Garcia from 9940 was part of the 'Future Leaders' contingent who attended the recent Institute in Brisbane.
He was invited to speak at one of his Cluster Clubs (Wellington South) as their current Assistant Governor.  He noted:

"I learnt that a man named Walter Drummond brought Rotary to Australia in 1921. Drummond was an Australian working in Chicago when he heard about Rotary and decided it was just what Australia needed. Drummond was only 24 years old when he brought Rotary to Australia. He was not allowed to become a charter member of the  Rotary Club of Melbourne because the rules at that time said he was too young to join  Rotary. As Stuart Heal said, “We have been shooting ourselves in the foot since 1921”.
We need both continuity and change, that is we need to hold on to our core values and change what needs to be changed to make our Rotary Clubs more relevant and ready for future generations.
Continuity involves continuing and strengthening those things Rotarians do well. We need to maintain our “can do” attitude. There are so many areas in which we have been successful - working for clean, safe water; spreading literacy; working in so many ways with our youth. And of course, our greatest project, polio eradication."
