As Tasmania's terrifying bush fires took hold in January, Mel Irons set up a Facebook page... The spur of the moment decision became the start of a social media whirlwind that provided a helping hand to thousands of people isolated by the fires.

I have been a Rotarian for some 40 years & your story is one that so typifies the Rotary theme of “ Service Above Self “ in such a graphic & proactive way .

Rotary has in Australia over 34,000 Rotarians in 2,200 Groups Nationally so it is a wonderful resource available in an emergency .

As an example worldwide Rotary has been instrumental in delivering the Polio serum to over 2 billion children to the point where there was annually app. 400,000 cases of Polio worldwide to now where last year there were some 230 cases reported . India has had no cases over the last 12 months .

You have shown, with such ingenuity, that with the proper application of Social Media so much is achievable in real time.
