So, why TV?

Rotarians in New Zealand are supporting the current Television campaign which is being broadcast across our nation.  To support this there is evidence that New Zealand has an excellent cost advantage to other countries around the world.  Read more here ...

When you compare New Zealand’s cost per thousand (cost to reach a 000 audience in Peak) to other developed markets in the Asia Pacific the numbers are astounding; We are 70% cheaper than Hong Kong, we’re 60% cheaper than Australia and we’re more than 40% cheaper than Singapore. Right Royal profile

Further to the previous Blog, the incoming President of a local Wellington Club (Porirua Sundown) had written to the Queen congratulating her on her Silver Jubilee and to also note the fact that the local Rotary Club was also celebrating it's 50th year.

The response from Buckingham Palace - read here ...

President Kylie writes:
Well, it’s certainly been a full on year. Having a baby at the start of my presidency was somewhat challenging but I got through it with help from my fellow Rotarians. It has been a pleasure to lead such a dynamic team of individuals who donate so much of their time to helping others. I joined Rotary when I was 24 years old and was really impressed with Porirua Sundown and the projects it took on, and the members who are just wonderful and diverse. Our Rotary club has done amazing things for people and organisations in the community. In the last 12 months I’d have to say my personal favourite moment would be gifting Rotary dictionaries to Porirua school kids in April. I would like to pass on my thanks and gratitude for the support of my husband, friends and fellow Rotarians for a great presidential year.

Our message must say what we do!

Audiences want what Rotary offers. We just need to help them understand.

Siegel+Gale’s research with donors showed 19 shared global motivators. Thing like “transparency” and “attracting people of the highest ethical standards.” Things like “helping me feel like part of something meaningful” and a “long track record of success.” Things we’re good at and some things we could do better.

        Understanding however is a hurdle.

With every organization there is a gap between what internal audiences know and what external audiences know. Research shows that Rotary’s gap is two to three times larger than average. Obviously, this is not a good position and underscores the importance of clarity and focus as critical components of our future success.

Let's get serious aboout Public Relations

Most of the news and information you see on the TV news or in the daily newspaper is generated by people just like you. They send information to the media, usually via news releases and personal contact. The best media outlets won't run your news releases verbatim, but they will use the information from them, supplemented with a call to you or a spokesperson.

Here are 10 tips for getting your organization noticed by your local media.  Read more .....

1. Get to know the media that are most likely to cover you.
2. Learn the names of the reporters who cover the beats most significant to you.
3. Get to know reporters personally.
4. Send complimentary copies of your publications to reporters.
5. Keep up with the personnel changes at your favourite media outlets.
6. Always give the media information that is newsworthy.
7. Develop a "virtual" media kit that resides on your organisation's website.
8. Take advantage of breaking news stories to promote your organization.
9. Make yourself available to the media at any time.
10. Always thank a reporter for his or her coverage.
